Melanie grew up in Spartanburg, South Carolina. As a child, Melanie attended dance and theatre classes at local studios and arts centers. One of her earliest roles was that of Mother Goose in the preschool pageant.
In her teens, Melanie became a regular performer with the Spartanburg Youth Theatre, Spartanburg Little Theatre, and Spartanburg Repertory Company performing and working backstage on plays, musicals and light operas. She was involved with theatre programs at Spartanburg High School and regularly attended South Carolina Theatre Association high school drama competitions.
Melanie was a member of her high school show choir, was selected for the South Carolina All-State Chorus, and was awarded a place at South Carolina's Governor's School for the Arts where she studied vocal music.
Melanie trained in classical and musical theatre singing at Converse College’s Pre-College and regularly participated in competitions with the National Federation of Music Clubs.
A Girl Scout beginning with Brownies, Melanie was honored to be selected to perform the lead role in biographical opera Daisy about the founder of the Girl Scouts, Juliette (Daisy) Gordon Low, produced by the Caprock Area Girl Scout Council in Lubbock, Texas.
Outside of the arts, Melanie took time to enjoy camping, environmental conservation, and participated in an student exchange program to England.
Melanie was a regular performer with the Spartanburg Youth Theatre. Pictured here as Kanga in Winnie-the-Pooh, Melanie in How to Eat Like A Child, Peppermint Patty in Snoopy! and as Lucy Fezziwig in A Christmas Carol.
During her six years in junior high and high school, Melanie participated in over 30 full stage productions in addition to numerous chorus, show choir, and solo recitals and concerts.
