Melanie studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City to train in musical theatre performance. During her eight-year residency in NYC, she also took classes at HB Studio and The Peoples' Improv Theatre. She was a production assistant on the documentary film 7 Days in September and a casting assistant for the Animal Planet reality series, Dog Days. Melanie worked as a casting assistant for an independent casting director, in play publishing and licensing at Samuel French, in contract administration at The Beanstalk Group, and on front of house staff at the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway.
Melanie was on the front of house staff at the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway for eight years. During that time, she witnessed the coming and going of 13 Broadway shows and audiences that attended them.
Melanie completed AMDA's Integrated Program.The program prepares performers through conservatory training with studies in musical theatre performance, acting, scene study, dance, singing, voice, and musical theatre history.
Melanie was on running crews for Off-Broadway productions. Pictured are programs from two shows: Cheat produced by Women's Project and Productions where Melanie was on wardrobe running crew, and A Last Dance for Sybil produced by New Federal Theatre, written by Ossie Davis and starring Ruby Dee, where Melanie was on scenery running crew.
Melanie attended the Moscow Art Theatre School's Stanislavsky Summer School, an intensive acting course hosted in Cambridge, Massachusetts. There, Melanie studied with renowned Russian teachers and directors: Dr. Anatoly Smeliansky, Andrei Droznin, Yuri Yeremin, and Mikhail (Misha) Lobanov in scene study, acting, movement, and theatre history.
